World leading liars

Global Brexitania leads the world in government incompetence, dishonesty & corruption. Prime Minister and world-beating liar Johnson lies to parliament, almost weekly, to a chorus of approval from CON MPs. The days when GB ministers were called to order by Speaker Bercow  are gone. His replacement, the supine Sir Lindsay Hoyle, is more Censor than Speaker, blocking opposition members who demand he set the record straight. He refuses to correct the relentless torrent of government lies, claiming it’s not his role to check facts but to control member’s behaviour. Telling lies repeatedly is acceptable behaviour in the eyes of Censor Hoyle, apparently.

Goebells’ nostrum; “A lie told often enough becomes the truth” is official UK government policy. Liar Johnson has a habit of proclaiming “the UK has the highest economic growth rate in the G7” to roars of approval from his backbenches. He makes this claim almost weekly but it’s seriously misleading. Growth can vary from one quarter to the next but the overall pattern is clear. The UK economy is second last in economic performance among G7 countries since the start of the pandemic (source, UK House of Commons library).

The list of inaccurate claims goes on, hospital refurbishment is passed-off as new hospital building. The government claims it has recruit more police and health professionals when, in fact, the numbers of both have gone down. Ministers claim they “got Brexit done” while simultaneously demanding the EU should renegotiate fundamental elements of the withdrawal agreement, negotiated just over a year ago. A litany of complaints from hauliers, artists, musicians, financiers, fishermen, farmers, exporters and importers make it clear Brexit very far from being done. Representatives of industry, arts and finance are ignored by government ministers who persist in claiming Brexit is a great success whereas, in fact, trade with the EU was down over 14% last year and the full impact of import controls is yet to be felt.

Objective truth is banished in the fantasy world of Liar Johnson. Members of Parliament who try to draw attention to government lies are silenced by Censor Hoyle. The negative impact of Brexit has been clouded by the pandemic but as the infection, hopefully, loses its potency the devastation caused by insane government policy will become clear. Brexit is a disaster in trade, arts, academia and diplomacy. The truth can’t be hidden behind a fusillade of parliamentary bluster much longer.
